Photos Saturday 3rd June 2017 - Day 2

Oxwich Bay Part 1

I woke up early at 6AM, but I relaxed in bed until Renée awoke, playing games and writing my diary. Renée was up by 8AM. We went for a very nice breakfast at around 8:30AM. Then we got ready for the boat trip and set off by 9:30AM.

By 10AM we had parked up and walked to the water's edge. Then we headed to the rocks on the right and walked up a fair way to some huge boulders before returning to the car and using the nearby facilities.

Then we got ready with jelly shoes and stowed away everything we didn't need.

Boat Trip

At 11AM with everyone gathered the briefing started. We were given extra fleeces and waterproofs to use as well as life jackets. Then we went to the water's edge to wait for the boat. Early sunshine had gone for now as showers passed nearby. But luckily they didn't reach us. We had fun paddling until the boat arrived just after 11:30AM. We soon boarded and were on our way. The bay was fairly calm but once out into open water it was rather choppy and rough. We battered our way through the waves a fair way from land and after a pause near Port-Eynon Bay we eventually reached and encircled Worm's Head, having gotten a soaking from the spray on the way. On the lee side it was much calmer and we could enjoy the bird colonies on the cliff faces and seals in the water. A blow hole also made for a spectacular show. By now Renée wasn't feeling so good. Soon we crossed over the top of the causeway as the water rose towards high tide and followed the coast back to start. Alas Renée succumbed to the conditions and let go of her breakfast. No problem as the skipper sloshed it all off the boat with sea water and noted that someone has to feed the fish! Back in Oxwich Bay we paused at a lobster pot where a large Spider Crab and a Hermit Crab were shown to us. Then much to Renée's relief we returned to start and disembarked at 1:25PM. It was a fun ride but conditions were a tad bumpy.

Oxwich Bay Part 2

After walking up the beach (not so far at high tide) and returning our borrowed gear we returned to the car to rest a moment. I got Renée some water and some Eccles Cakes also helped. Once she felt better and warmed up we went for a walk Eastwards along Oxwich Bay. It was a pleasant walk as the sun had returned and it was warming up nicely. We paused by a Dune out of the wind so Renée could bask and warm up further. I paddled for a bit too in my wet water shoes. Once Renée had had enough we returned. I couldn't resist exploring the dunes while Renée went on ahead to the car. Soon enough I got back too and we left at about 3PM to return to the Inn.

Back at the Inn we had tea, a rest and a wash. We fell asleep together for an hour, waking up soon after 6PM. We soon got up as we were hungry.

Chips Ahoy

At 6:25PM we drove to Chips Ahoy, arriving at 6:40PM. The Weather was glorious. I saw a big bird of prey near Burry Green swooping down but failed to get a good enough view to identify it. At the chippie there was a big queue as expected, but it was worth the wait. We ate in the car and it was delicious!

Evening at King's Head

At 7:30PM we returned to the King's Head. We had a quick drink on the terrace outside the bar in the glorious evening sunshine before returning to the room soon after 8PM.

Once settled down we looked at the day's photos and planned the next two days. Monday was looking wet so we would save the caves for then. We planned to visit the Botanical Garden tomorrow. By 9:30PM we had retired for night.
