Walk to Scotty's Diner

I woke up at 3AM for a while but managed to snooze between 4 and 6. So not too bad for first night in another time zone. Renée woke around 6:30. We had a nice lazy start. We weren't too hungry after yesterday's stuffing in Grand Central. We learnt that we can move to a room with a better view so we packed up. Around 9:30AM we went outside to take pictures. We ended up getting a donut, toasted bagel, croissant and iced latte from dunkin donuts nearby. Very nice!

Pamela arrived at 10:05AM and looked around our room. We then left our cases downstairs ahead of the room move and walked to Scotty's Diner, passing the Chrysler Building en route. We arrived around 11AM. The pancakes with maple syrup and eggs and tea were delicious!

Walk to High Line

We then walked along 39th Street / 5th Avenue / 34th Street / 11th Avenue to the Northern end of the High Line at the junction of 11th Avenue / 30th Street. (There is a section North of this but that is still under construction.)

High Line

We walked the entire length which took us to 1:45PM. We were all impressed what a good job they had done converting this old raised freight railroad into a park. It was very crowded and popular, and pretty hot by the end.

Greenwich Village / Café Reggio

After a short rest we wandered East into Greenwich Village, ending up at Café Reggio at 2:45PM On MacDougal Street near West 3rd Street. I had a nice ice cream but my tea was not so good. Renée and Pamela had iced coffees. We needed the rest. It was hot outside. I abandoned the tea as it was not like any English Breakfast tea I'd had before. Thankfully they didn't make us pay for it. I was glad to move on in the end.

Back to Hotel

At 3:45PM we walked to 6th Avenue and caught a Number 5 bus back to the hotel. The aircon on the bus was lovely after the heat of the day. We got back to the hotel at 4:25PM.

The new room 91 was much better. We had a great view along 46th Street towards Times Square and the aircon worked nicely. It was also a bigger room. We swapped pictures with Pamela and chatted before she left soon after 5:30PM to catch a train home. Meanwhile I noticed I was slightly sunburnt - a reminder to remember the suntan lotion tomorrow!

Ben's / After Dark

At 6:10PM after a rest we were hungry and headed out. We caught a bus at 5th Avenue down to 38th Street. Then we walked across to Ben's at 7th Street for 6:35PM. We both had steak burgers. I had talked a lot about this and I'm pleased to say Renée was not disappointed! After a good meal we left at 7:25PM.

We walked down 7th Street looking at a couple of expensive gift shops. We ended up in Macy's at 7:50PM. We had a good look around. Renée was shocked by the experience. Very expensive and a huge overwhelming place. We left after 20 minutes and caught a Number 5 bus from 34th to 46th Street. We were back by about 8:30PM. Going back it was getting dark so was nice to see all the city lights coming on.

Then we relaxed a while before retiring for the night around 10PM.
