Photos Tuesday 13th September 2011 - Day 1

After we checked out of Troutbeck Cottage we had a smooth drive northwards. Still windy and showery but not too horrendous. The weather was much better on the A74/M74 which gave us a good run to the Glasgow M8 which was clear this time. Soon we were crossing the Erskine Bridge to join the A82. By now the weather had closed in and it was soaking wet.

Entering Scotland as the M6 becomes the A74(M). Straight away the landscape becomes large and sweeping as we wind our way Northwards towards Glasgow.

The A82 drive was a soaker. The view at the Glencoe Pass was not so great although the mountains were visible and looked pretty atmospheric in the misty conditions.

An ethereal scene meets us on the Glencoe Pass as large mountains loom out of the mist and the rain buckets down. Sorry but that umbrella cannot possibly hold back that waterfall... More ethereal and misty scenes on the Glencoe Pass.

It was obvious the Gondola was not an option today so instead of going there for lunch, we drove round the South side of Loch Leven from Glencoe to Kinlochmore on the B863 for a small lunch in the Tailrace Inn before returning on the north side to the A82 to resume the drive to Fort William.

After lunch we continued on to Fort William. We dumped the car in a pay and display car park for 2 hours while we had a look around, went shopping and had tea. Then as the weather started to dry off we went to the Distillery Guest House BnB at Nevis Bridge to check in.

After supper we went for a short walk around Neptune's Staircase in Corpach as it started to get dark.

Then as dusk approached we returned to the BnB to retire for the night.
