I haven't seen a live Small Copper all year. But they've definitely been around. During a clean of the motorbike I found these remains stuck under the fairing. I guess from late summer time. Poor thing...

19th May 2013

The Dukes were late this year due to the cold spring. I failed to find them 2 weeks ago. However they were finally out today. With nicer weather than forecast I jumped on the motorbike and headed out to look again. Given how fresh they were I'd say they're only just out. But nice to see 10-12 Dukes at Ivinghoe. They seem to be doing well there. Increasingly cloudy conditions made photography easier, and by lunchtime when I left it was overcast and the Dukes were the only butterflies still active.

It was also nice to see my first Dingy Skippers of the year, as well as one Grizzled Skipper. The one I failed to see was the Green Hairstreak. I guess I just failed to see them before it got too cloudy.
