Two Speckled Woods. |
Tropical butterflies seen during a visit to Butterfly World in St. Albans. Light levels in the tropical tent were very poor due to bad weather outside so photography was rather challenging, especially with the ones that wouldn't sto moving.

A morning Yellow Shell moth parked on a wall in Hendon. A Male Chalkhill Blue used my foot as a wind break during a windy walk on top of the Dunstable Downs. Then in the evening in Kenton a couple of moths flew into my room.

We went to Bald Hill to see the Silver Spotted Skippers. We were a bit earlyand the weather was marginal but two freshly emerged Males were spotted. Other species were of course seen too, including an exquisitely fresh Painted Lady on brambles and more.

Pictures from a walk around Park Wood in Ruislip. This is the first time I've been here in July. I didn't know Silver Washed Fritillaries existed here. But when a Male swooped past me and then was found further along the track feeding on Blackberries that was my sighting of the day. I did also see a Purple Hairstreak in the trees but did not get a good picture of it.

I went to Esher / Fairmile Common to see the Silver Studded Blues. They were already tatty but still nice to see them. Then over to Chobham Common where not a lot was flying around in the heat (and what was on the move was impossible to photograph).

Spring butterflies at Ivinghoe Beacon. I wanted to see the Duke of Burgundy butterflies but conditions were a bit on the cool and cloudy side and it seemed a bit early. However, I did find a single early Duke that looked freshly emerged.
