Photos 2nd - 4th February 2009 - Snow Special.

We had 12cm of snow overnight and early morning on the 2nd. 15cm fell on nearby Barnhill. There was no way I was making it to work on the Monday, with all roads iced up and stuck cars blocking all routes to work. I managed to work from home instead fortunately. At lunchtime I had a gorgeous walk over Barnhill. There is also a short video of a snowy walk on Barnhill. On the 3rd and 4th I did make it to work and explored a snowy Horsenden Hill. Plenty of sledgers up there having fun. The nature reserve, alive with butterflies and meadow flowers in the summer time, quite a different place covered in snow. On the way back I also found a 'snow girl' near the office which was rather suspiciously dressed to look like a prostitute by the roadside! As the snow melted, overnight frost created long needle like crystals and all sorts of footprints were left by humans and animals.

WinterWonderland1.jpg
My new car with a thick layer of snow on it. I didn't get very far in the commute. The roads were lethal. Accidents and impassable slopes everywhere. A bench with a comfy looking snow cushion on it. A Christmassy looking christmas tree. Just 6 weeks late... I think it's safe to say the Jubilee line wasn't running north of Wembley. The tracks are buried under the snow in places. Snow stuck to the side of a branch in a conical sculptural way. Ascending through the woods towards the summit of Barnhill. The snow has turned them into a magical winter wonderland!

Lots of people on Barnhill enjoying the snow. Another Barnhill magical winter wonderland shot. OK my feet are getting cold. My ankles are below the snow line, which is 15cm up. As I left Barnhill to return to work the snow started to fall heavily again. Lots of sledging activity on the Northwest slope of Horsenden Hill. Sledgers departing the summit of Horsenden Hill.

A snowy path through brambles. Footprints in Batts Field. Normally this area is good for butterflies. None today of course! Closeup of snow and grass looking towards the sun. The snow looks like millions of sugar grains. Snowy pond in the corner of Batts Field below Horsenden Hill. Anyone fancy a game of tennis? Tennis court by Horsenden Lane North.

Shadows as the sun shines through trees on a golf course. Decaying cumulus cloud producing some interesting shapes. Curious cumulus cloud with a hoop shaped appendage on the front that caught my eye. Cumulus building into huge cloud streets as snow showers start to develop. Pretty cloudscapes as the sky overdevelops and goes showery.
